Contingency Plan:

First Idea:
Small Level Design

Level Design Mind Map.png

My thoughts on my first idea: Because of my role on another Unit I personally enjoy Level design so I thought I'd make sure to include it in my variety of different topics and the fact there's so many different options within this sector makes for a good option to possibly pick due to the fact the amount of creativity has numerous outcomes.

Currently leaning towards this after thinking about my second option because of my passion for Modelling, having such a huge option of how many things I can create is something I'd inspire to do.

Second Idea:
Animation

Animation Mind Map.png

With animation it can be very time consuming to set up the scene, however with animation there's also a huge variety, making the option for making a scene and animation really unique however because it takes to long I will more than likely not be deciding on choosing this sector in Games Development.

Final choice Between the two:

I'm going to be choosing "Small" Level Design as my option to further research for my Final Project this is because I already know quite a lot about level design due to having to already look further into a specialist study for a past piece of work. Having this chosen as my option I will be able to apply my already learned skills to a new piece of work giving me a extended bonus on the detail I will be able to add to what level I finally decide on, currently leaning more towards the creation of a bedroom but the option to make a abandoned graveyard seems like a very tempting option, the detail that would be able to be added to a graveyard has endless opportunities this though could lead to it taking to much time to create in the 13 Weeks for this project.

Making a bedroom and being able to reference it to my RL (Real Life) room would make for a much more personal creation for work which I personally feel would make work a lot easier yet still challenging due to the layout of my bedroom. I do like the thought of making a Kitchen/Living room but having done this before wouldn't be as fun for creativity due to having made them before although the idea of creating a form of shop could lead to a whole new style and creation of models to what I've done before because I've never properly modelled something that would go on show for a shopping centre or small shop.

Over all I'm going to make the bedroom for my Level Design topic, due to the fact that it has a really good possibility for high end models because of the objects inside of a bedroom are so simple yet have a very good level of intricacy allowing for the better chance of Low/High poly modelling which will give me a much better opportunity for the finalisation of the level.

What I'm going to need to research:

Bedroom Portfolios

Texturing

Modelling styles

Lighting techniques

Layouts

Modelling tutorials (3/4)

Primary research (concept responses)

*Possibility of a interview*

First Image.PNG

For my first lesson of practical I have started by creating and modelling something really small that goes inside of my bedroom in the corner where it isn't really noticeable. Modelling this didn't take to long but considering that i feel like it came out really well considering the reference image didn't quite show all of the necessary detail. The process I used was a far from complicated one, I mostly crated one side of the model and copied and Shift dragged the models to be able to copy them over, after doing that all I needed to do was align the models thoroughly. I then proceeded to simple texture the model with a lighter grey and a darker grey to give certain parts of the model a more dynamic contrast when within lighting.

Future Layout:
Map Layout.png

With one current in the scene I have currently laid out what positions the other models will be in, doing this just gives me a small visual representation of where the future models will do, I also need to get more images of my room so that I can have more professional reference to give more detail to needed areas.

Starting to create more models for my bedroom from reference I have created the desk which will in future have my PC setup on it in the corner of the room which will be seen in reference images.

For this I didn't use my tools, I did have to chamfer the top part of the desk to make it a lot smoother because that's how it's in real life.

Pillow.PNG

I wasn't sure on how I was going to be able to make a really good looking pillow so I decided to do a little bit of research on how to make a good pillow and I found this video which was really helpful and the end result was really realistic but not to high poly that it goes against my idea of a low poly model creation.

Bed 4.PNG

Trying to swiftly move on throughout the modelling of my room I have started the creation of my bed. Doing this I started of small with the ends of the bed and then chamfered them and made the edges to smooth out the ends, I then moved onto the creation of the planks and the slot ins for them to make it loo more realistic instead of it just phasing into the blocks, after that I needed to make a mattress which looks good considering all it took was some chamfering making sure that I got the right amounts of segments to add.

Desk finish.png

In the creation of my desk I decided to remodel the top because there was a lot of uneven stretching and extruding which I knew needed to changed so as soon as possible I changed how that was made, I also added the sliders on my desk which wasn't clearly shown before in my images

Bed Touch ups:
Bed Render.jpg

This model will more than likely get some more touch ups in the future, however I fell that the model has come out really well, used a variety of skills for this one such as using the Cloth modifier which I have never used before which I thought was something really good to be able to pick up a new skill especially considering this skill will help me a lot in the future for making more high poly models if i have the time to do that.

Keyboard creation:

Keybaord.jpg

This so far was defiantly my favourite model to create so far in the final project, in the future I hope that I will be able to use images from online to be able to create more of my models because that will help me save a lot of time for more future models to make sure that I can stay on time during the upcoming weeks.

Keyboard .jpg

For me this was a really fun object to model, having to model it from a image I got offline because it's the same one I have at home being able to model this from 2D made doing this so much easier being able to make it from a plane and then symmetry it making it a 3d model, I then made one of the keys from a plane and didn't symmetry it because it being the key needed to just sit there I then duplicated that and would resize it for the needed keys like the space bar having that one key able to be used for all of them defiantly made doing this a lot easier instead of needing to create all of the keys over and over again.

Mouse Creation:

Mouse Render.jpg

Creating a mouse that is for the computer set up in my room which I am modelling from I had to make a much less detailed version of a mouse because the one In my room is currently way out of my skill range for topology and generalised modelling skill however to be able to create a still usable model for the room I followed a guide from YouTube I didn't use the whole video because I wanted to keep it really basic due to the fact I'm modelling a Low-Poly room but I did make the mouse a more high poly version, however, it didn't turn out quite right but I wanted to make sure I showed that I had created it for future planning of creating a High-Poly version.

Mouse Render High-Poly.jpg

To be able to more easily prove the process of my work and that my work is my own I have created a time lapsed video of the model creation, this helps me be able to look back over my own process and how the model was created which will highly help me in the future to come back to this part of the work.

Final Product Progression:

Final Project progression.jpg
Map Layout.png

Currently really happy with how the progress of the room is coming along not yet modelled everything that needs to go into the room which is why there are just blocked place holders for the time being for models that I needed to make sure have the correct amount of space. I also feel like the scaling was finally at a good stage and I have not set on the room at it's current stage is perfectly fine. In the upcoming weeks I'm planning on slowly getting everything I make into the scene in preparation for the end of the final project and then moving it into unreal where I will try to make sure that I can add lighting which could take a while considering I'm not very sure on how Unreal works properly. The render came out really well rendering it in a quick silver and in high quality setting in the project itself, I'm defiantly exited to be able to get the rest of the models created and published.

Monitor Trial and Error:

I wasn't really sure on how to make a monitor look good with more realistic shapes and edges so I tried to make on from a 2D plane just to make sure I got proper proportions for the monitor size, In the video you can see my make the edges chamfered which ended up messing up how the back of the monitor would go when I was trying to shrink it in to be able to make that standard backing to the monitor so that it would have a more ergonomic look and then be able to make the stand from the same plane making it look a lot cleaner however the way I went about that In this video was short lived so I went onto creating one that turned out a lot better after a small amount of trial and error.

Monitor completion

For the creation of this I started with a 2D plane of what I was going to be making just to ensure the proportion of the screen was correct I then inset the screen to give that a bit more of a realistic depth in the model instead of it being just a flat screen which would be really poor modelling, I then proceeded to hide the plane and go to the back of the model which is what I wanted to create myself instead of follow another plane and I think it went really well i made sure to give the back of the monitor some realism instead of sticking to a boring model type I inset the back and made it shrink inwards to give it that more typical backing for the monitor which allowed me to create part of the stand using the same model instead of adding more unnecessary shapes, after that I just gave it a really simple stand like in the image and made sure that i looked almost the exact same even though I did forget to reenable the image to check after the video ended I made sure it looked fine. For the texturing I used a very basic grey texture and for the screen I got a screen grab of a different piece and work and put it as the screen on a plane.

Side Desk Creation:

Desk 1.PNG
Desk 2.PNG
Desk 3.PNG
Desk 5.PNG
Desk 4.PNG

Creating a smaller desk that Is inside of my room used a few tools that weren't to complicated but are always helpful to be able to use, having to Boolean parts of the original square to get the correct shape as well as making the draws hjave some depth within the acutely model otherwise you wouldn't be able to tell that the draws were really there and that's why for my render I made sure to get the right angle to be able to see all the needed edges and contrast between the different models.

I've been making sure to do texturing as I go because at the start of the project I wasn't to sure on how to do it properly however I did do some research into texturing which was really helpful on how to texture a lot more professionally.

Desk Render.jpg

Quick Bin Creation:

Bin Render.jpg

Further creation of my bedroom plan I'm still trying to make sure to stick to what is inside of my bedroom and for my Bin it's just really simple because it has a open top giving it easy accessibility to put rubbish away instead of leaving it laying around. I've been making sure to do texturing as I go because at the start of the project I wasn't to sure on how to do it properly however I did do some research into texturing which was really helpful on how to texture a lot more professionally.

Computer Creation:

Part One: Basic Shapes done
Computer Render Part 1.jpg

I started the creation of a more detailed model that still fits into the low poly style of my modelling for my room, I have made a computer before but I wanted to try and make this one much better than I did before now that I know a lot more skills in 3Ds Max this one part of the full model took me about two hours of trial and error making sure that different parts fitted properly to make sure there were no weird gaps in the models or overlapping of unnecessary parts in the PC, for part two which will be another video of the creation process I plan on adding more detail on computer parts as best as I can because I know if I try to add to much detail this model would take a very long time which I unfortunately don't have however if I had the time to be able to finish this whole model I would happily do so.

Part Two: Finalization and Texturing
Computer Render 2.jpg

The way this model has turned out has made me very happy considering I have tried making a computer before and it didn't turn out nearly as detailed, having the mesh over the fans was something I was really happy about because it makes it have much more of a contrast for the whole model being able to see through it like you would on most normal gaming computers as well as having a not to visible glass pain on the side that you can mostly tell is there on the render. The tools and techniques that were used weren't as nearly as difficult as I thought they would be getting the mesh was rather simple having to connect the lines with the connect tool and inverting the selection and then just deleting them for such a small amount of effort had a very good outcome especially for how the model looks as a final product.

Curtain Rail:

Rail Render.jpg

For this model I didn't OBS record for a time-lapse because of how simple the model was, all I needed to do was make a cylinder and two spheres either end and then I proceeded to use a square and move edges In and duplicate it I didn't need anything special because it's supposed to be Low-Poly and it's rather hard to add key details to a curtain rail.

Progression Of Layout:

Room Render.jpg
Room Render 2.jpg

I feel that I have made a lot of progress for the amount of time I have been making my FInal project, trying to make sure I do at least one model a day to keep on track and I now have 5 weeks left and I do feel that I will be able to get the rest of the room done because from now It's just creation of really basic models or models that are small enough to not need as much complexity. Still using my asset list I can tell that from the main assets there are only a few left that need to be done which Is really helpful because I now know what I can set my focus onto to get onto the lesser needed models but having time to do those then allows me to  have more detail which overall of course will help greatly in portfolio and general work for the project.

Curtain Creation:

Curtain Render.jpg

For the creation of these curtains I wasn't really sure on how to make them so I did a little researching and found a really help[ful video which allowed me to create some very decent looking curtains, the way they turned out was really good even though there is a little bit of overlapping in the texture in the future with my spare time in the final project if I do get much I do plan on going back into the curtain and fixing the collision issue but other than that small amount becuase there isn't that much of that overall it turned out better than I expected considering it's made out of a plane.

The skills used to create this were nothing major just mainly the use of the cloth modifier which I am still new to and am still getting used to how it works based on the collision of other object and the main model itself the way it bends and folds using keyframes however was a really fun new thing to learn from this tutorial being able to make it animate into the thing you need and then save the ending for the new model having this new skill will defiantly be very helpful in future models.

Window Creation:

Window Render.jpg

Made a very small Window with a see through texture on the plane to be able to see through the window as intended for the use of a window, this was still listed as a main asset even though it took 5 minuets to make but being able to tick off another model with small texturing is always helpful.

Speaker Creation:

414CAD8D-D5D6-4832-8A3B-C1D9CBA597A3.jpeg
Speaker Render.jpg

For the creation of my speaker I didn't have the best of images so with what I had I tried to reference from that as best as possible as well as from memory of shape, it didn't take me to long to figure out the type of shape I would need to achieve using chamfer tool as well as the edge tool to be able to drag out specific corners for my more ergonomic shaping of the speaker.

Doing this I learnt a really good key skill that I had already developed from past work, but the skill of being able to reference from a Image that has an off angle Is defiantly really helpful for possible future plans of modelling for example if I was to try implement this skill for creating my keyboard I modelled from an online imagine instead of my own I more than likely would have been able to do it from my own perspective.

Headphone Creation:

Headphone Render.jpg

For this model it didn't take me to long because I have a really good idea In mind when going into making this model for the scene, making sure that it sticks to the really basic layout that everything is sticking to that being a low-poly model style and keeping to a really basic texture sense for most of the models because that's how most of my room really is much more flat colours for the room in real life from reference models. The skills I used fore this were really basic some chamfering and a little bit of extruding for the headphones extender if I was to do a high-poly version of this I would defiantly go into making it after having done some more research into how to make the model properly because the over all out come is good but is also not the best quality it could be which might change if I get some more time towards the hand in date.

Cloth Storage creation:

Storage Render.jpg

Created a really simple model based of off what is inside of my room for the final main model inside of the scene it wasn't super complicated to make however because of the shape needed for the model it took me a little while to be able to get the ergonomic shape of the final design, in the time lapse nan see al of the trial and error to be able to achieve the shape using the edges and chamfering which took a few tries because the topology would break.

Finalising stage:

Almost Finished Room 2.jpg
Almost Finished Room.jpg

During the creation of this scene so far I have learned toi make much more unique shaped models especially for the speakers that I have now added into this level, the shape is much rounder and a lot less of a square shape getting to the shape it did took a decent amount of time trying to make sure that when i moved the edges and corners it would sit properly. There are still some models I can be adding which I will be doing for the Last few weeks of this final project.

The layout Is all based off of my bedroom In real life which has stuck to my original Idea other than a few tweaks to be able to model to my current skill level which means only one model had to change massively and that was what the mouse was to look like.

Model Show Room:

Show Room.jpg

I made a show room to be able to show all of the models in one room with no textures on the models, being able to see all of the models allows me and viewers to be able to see the actual amount of models from the room without them all being spread out in the room layout. This allows allows me to make sure that I've gotten everything done from my main asset list which I currently have with about 5 weeks to spare for stretch goal models to fill in spaces in the empty parts of the room which will help it look more unique and not as barren in places for the room.

Updating Textures:

Progression update.jpg

Some Models In this scene had greyed out textures so I added some slightly more detailed textures to the curtain and for the mouse keyboard and computer I added different block textures but the ones that correspond to how they look from my Real life textures, doing this Is allowing me to slowly finish of the scene for my final project due In date In two weeks times.

Final Main Goal Model:

Chair.jpg

Last model of my room has been created for the final project which is really good because I now have a week left for my website work giving me a good chance to update blog work, the process for this chair wasn't complicated at all its surprisingly easier to make than I had expected to be extruding the bottom of it to get the normal chair look as well as the wheels which doesn't look to bad because It looks like the wheels are sitting comfortably inside of the legs.

Kept the textures really basic due to how plain they are in real life and because I'm trying my hardest to stick to reference I need to also have the more plain textures on the models for the whole scene which means it doesn't look to detailed but also means I'm sticking to low poly modelling style.

Unreal Lighting practise:

Because of my research I decided to show that I am able to implement some basic lighting for the plan of getting my scene Into a Unreal scene to be able to have the ability to look at the models "in person" giving the emersion of a real scene with playability which would also I feel give a boost in what could be achieved with the room possibly being able to make models  interactable and seen up close. Just these basic lighting techniques make the room look a lot better when the rooms lighting is built and setup properly which I do plan on doing with sufficient timing or if I ever come back to this piece of work in my future career.

I plan on learning more of the complex lighting to be able to help boost my ability in immersive lighting as well as the fact that having the better lighting will easily highlight more important areas in the room like the computer setup.
